Communications Officer

Glen Eira Adult Learning Centre (GEALC) is looking for a creative, organised and community-minded Communications Officer to help share GEALC’s story and strengthen our engagement with learners, partners and the wider community.

GEALC is an award-winning not for profit community-based Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Learn Local organisation and an Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) provider. GEALC provides quality, affordable, accessible education for adults to achieve their full potential and extend their involvement in activities in the community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working closely with the Manager and Events Coordinator, the Communications Officer is responsible for managing GEALC’s digital presence, developing engaging promotional materials, supporting the delivery of community events, and using insights and analytics to improve communication outcomes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, collaboration and purposeful work in a small, supportive team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and maintain GEALC’s social media platforms, website and monthly e-newsletter

  • Create engaging content to promote courses, events and community initiatives

  • Design promotional materials for digital, print and in-centre use

  • Maintain the website, online booking system, brochures and timetables

  • Monitor and analyse social media and website performance to inform content planning and contribute to annual Marketing Plan

  • Support the planning and delivery of GEALC’s events, including displays and visual presentation

  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure communications are accurate, accessible and aligned with GEALC’s values.

ABOUT YOU

You are a confident communicator with a creative eye and strong organisational skills. You enjoy working independently while also being part of a collaborative team, and you are motivated by work that makes a positive difference in the community.

Essential:

  • A relevant qualification in communications, marketing, media, PR or a related field

  • Demonstrated graphic design skills and experience creating content for digital channels

  • Experience managing websites and social media platforms

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Skills or experience in photography and/or videography

  • Experience using WordPress or similar content management systems

  • Understanding of, or experience working within, the not-for-profit or community education sector.
